Today I bring a video tutorial about converting a stereo mixing session for a baroque music ensemble into a binaural surround mix. For this purpose, I have made use of a live recording session I lead two years ago, and the accurate binaural algorithms of “dearVR” plug-in by “Plug-in Alliance”.
Basically, I have removed all the stereo panning in the mix, (keeping the basic EQ and frequency exciters), and replaced it with dearVR plug-in in order to have a binaural stereo output. Physical considerations of the venue and disposition of the instruments where the piece was performed were taken into account to design the surround properties of the mix.
Information about the piece:
Johann Sebastian Bach, Concerto for 4 Harpsichords in A minor, BWV 1065. Final movement.
Performed by: The Baroque Ensemble of Bogota. November 2016
Recorded and mixed by Cesar Arevalo
